Southern Colorado faces a sharp turn in weather as a cold front moves in ahead of the weekend, promising cooler temperatures and increased wind. The system will replace the current above-average warmth with conditions that fall below seasonal norms by Saturday.

The front is expected to cross the state early Saturday, lowering temperatures by 10 to 15 degrees. This shift will bring a drop in snow levels and the arrival of tropical moisture from the east. The new air mass will drive stronger winds, with gusts forecast to reach 40 to 45 mph across the area.

Rainfall totals for the region are estimated between 0.10 and 0.75 inches. The heaviest precipitation is likely to fall in the San Juan Mountains and the southwestern corner of the state. These areas already face persistent risks of flooding and mudslides due to ongoing heavy rainfall.

Current weather conditions vary by location. In Colorado Springs, Friday brings a low of 51 and a high of 73, with a dry afternoon. Pueblo is set for a low of 55 and a high of 81, with showers continuing into the evening. Canon City will see a high of 75, while Woodland Park remains above seasonal averages with a high of 56.

The plains are expected to see a low of 60 and a high of 83 on Friday. A lull in moisture is predicted for Friday afternoon in some areas, but this pause is short-lived. The front and new moisture arrive Friday night, carrying the potential for decent rainfall as strong winds set in over the weekend.

Flood watches, severe thunderstorm watches, and specific flood warnings remain in effect for parts of western Colorado. The San Juan Mountains and western slope will continue to experience heavy rain and flood risk into Friday and through the weekend. Forecasters anticipate the weather will dry out by next week, returning temperatures to more seasonal levels.
