Buyers with a budget of $25,000 now have access to newer electric SUVs that previously required much higher price tags. The entry of these vehicles into the used market allows consumers to purchase models with substantial range and modern features without the cost associated with new electric vehicles.
Edmunds, an automotive website, has identified four specific models that meet these criteria. The analysis focuses on vehicles that balance affordability with practicality, aiming to help buyers avoid models that cut too many corners.
The Chevrolet Equinox EV, introduced for the 2024 model year, offers an EPA-estimated range of up to 319 miles. Edmunds recommends the 2LT trim for this vehicle. This configuration includes heated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, and a hands-free liftgate. It also adds driver assistance tools such as adaptive cruise control and a 360-degree camera system.
Ford’s Mustang Mach-E is recommended for buyers seeking sportier performance. Models from 2021 through 2023 typically fall under the $25,000 limit. The Premium trim is advised over the GT version because it offers sufficient power while providing the best range in the lineup when paired with the extended-range battery pack. This setup allows the vehicle to travel more than 300 miles on a single charge.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been a favorite since its 2022 debut due to its fast charging capabilities and comfortable interior. Low-mileage examples from 2022 to 2024 are available under the price cap. Edmunds advises buyers to avoid the base SE Standard Range trim, which has an EPA-estimated range of only 220 miles. Rear-wheel-drive models with the larger battery pack deliver an EPA-estimated range of 303 miles.
The Volkswagen ID.4 provides a comfortable ride and spacious cargo area suitable for families. Its EPA-estimated range reaches up to 275 miles. Significant depreciation has made low-mileage units easy to find in the secondhand market. Edmunds suggests targeting the 2023 Pro S trim. This version includes a larger standard touchscreen, synthetic leather upholstery, and a panoramic sunroof.
Bradley Iger, a contributor at Edmunds, notes that the cheapest option is not always the best fit for long-term ownership. Buyers should consider their daily needs and preferences to ensure the vehicle remains practical and satisfying to drive for several years.
