Jay-Z will perform at the Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show on Feb. 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The announcement confirms that the rapper will take the stage himself, a role he has occupied previously but has not held as the sole headline performer in recent years.

In a statement, Jay-Z described the opportunity as the culmination of a three-decade career. He noted that his path from the album "Reasonable Doubt" to the Super Bowl stage represents a continuous journey. He characterized the upcoming performance as a dream come true that allows him to share thirty years of music and culture with a global audience.

The decision follows an intensive anniversary tour branded "Jay-Z 30." The celebration began in late May when he headlined the Roots Picnic. In July, he played three sold-out concerts at Yankee Stadium to mark the 25th and 30th anniversaries of his albums "The Blueprint" and "Reasonable Doubt." He extended the tour internationally with shows in Paris and London.

This year also saw the release of "Jay-Z in 8," an eight-part docuseries in which he discussed his catalog with producer Rick Rubin. He concluded his global tour dates this past weekend at SoFi Stadium, the same venue selected for the 2027 halftime performance. Those two nights featured guest appearances by Scarface, DJ Khaled, John Legend, Blue Ivy Carter, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Too Short.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stated that the league had worked closely with Jay-Z and Roc Nation for several years. Goodell recalled that when he first agreed to let Roc Nation produce the show, he asked that Jay-Z perform on the stage when the moment felt right. Goodell expressed excitement for fans to witness the artist's cultural impact on the biggest stage in sports.

Oliver Schusser, Apple’s Vice President of Music and International Content, said the partnership with Jay-Z has helped bring prolific artists to the Super Bowl stage in previous years. He stated that Apple is thrilled Jay-Z will take the stage himself this time, expecting the performance to be an incredible spectacle.

Roc Nation will executive produce the show, with Hamish Hamilton serving as director. The performance will air on ESPN, ABC, and Disney+. Spanish-language broadcasts will be available on ESPN Deportes, Disney+, and Univision. Mobile viewers can watch via NFL+.

The 2027 show follows the 2026 performance by Bad Bunny, which drew an average of 128.2 million viewers. That figure exceeded the Super Bowl game average of 124.9 million but fell short of the 133.5 million viewers who watched Kendrick Lamar’s 2025 performance. Usher held the previous viewership record with his 2024 show.

Bad Bunny’s 2026 halftime performance, dubbed the "Benito Bowl" by fans, won seven Emmy Awards. These included wins for musical direction, choreography, sound mixing, lighting design, technical direction, and directing. He also won in the outstanding special (live) category. Previous halftime performers include Rihanna, The Weeknd, and a collective featuring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent, and Anderson .Paak.
