The office of first lady Melania Trump announced on Friday that a six-day humanitarian pause in hostilities will begin in Oleshky on Thursday, Oct. 29. The arrangement halts all military action in the Russian-occupied southern Ukrainian city to facilitate aid delivery and civilian evacuation.

The announcement credits the first lady directly with brokering the deal. Her office stated she acted as the 'Exclusive Intermediary,' working directly with Russian and Ukrainian leadership to define the terms. She reportedly initiated talks and aligned both parties on objectives, timing, and technical procedures. The role is unusual for a first lady's office, which typically does not lead such diplomatic efforts.

Mrs. Trump described the city's condition as critical. 'Oleshky is a front-line war city on the brink of disaster,' she said. She noted that the remaining population consists mostly of elderly residents who require medical attention, food, and clean water. According to her statement, residents have limited electricity, navigate mined roads, and face regular attacks. She said the evacuation and aid efforts would have been impossible without her intervention.

Under the plan, non-military civilian leaders from both nations will visit residents to assess needs. Those choosing to leave will receive coordinated transportation to their preferred destination. 'I anticipate some will want to go to Russia, and some to Ukraine,' the first lady said. Newsmax, a conservative outlet, confirmed it will document the efforts of both Russian and Ukrainian teams on the ground.

Neither Russia nor Ukraine has issued a public comment on the specific announcement. However, Ukrainian officials indicated a tentative agreement exists for the occupied territory. White House communications director Steven Cheung praised the development on X, calling it 'amazing news' and 'a major, positive step towards peace.'

The move follows a recent phone call between Pope Leo and Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which the pope expressed concern over the humanitarian situation in Oleshky. Mrs. Trump has also worked to reunite 34 children with their families after their forced removal by Russia.

The ceasefire arrives as President Trump's broader war-ending efforts stall. He has recently expressed frustration with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, suggesting Ukraine needs a new leader. Earlier this week, Mr. Trump told reporters that Russia has been 'fine on Ukraine' and that they 'haven't been doing much.'

The localized pause is set to begin Oct. 29. The first lady's office maintains that the arrangement is strictly humanitarian and focused on the specific city of Oleshky.
