The Wisconsin men's tennis team faces a persistent challenge on the road after falling in a close match against Middle Tennessee State on Saturday. The loss capped a split weekend for the Badgers, who also secured a home victory over Pennsylvania on Friday. This result leaves the team at 6-6 overall and 0-1 in Big Ten play. More significantly, Wisconsin remains without a road win this season, a statistical gap that highlights a recurring difficulty for the squad.

The weekend began positively on Friday at Nielsen Tennis Center, where Wisconsin hosted Pennsylvania. The Badgers had never defeated the Quakers in program history, with last year's meeting resulting in a narrow 4-3 loss. This time, Wisconsin dominated the contest, winning 6-1. Senior Josef Dodridge and junior Osgar O'Hoisin started strong in doubles, winning 6-1 to extend their unbeaten streak as a duo. Sophomores Daniel Soyfer and Chase Colton followed with a 6-2 victory. In singles, the Badgers won all but one match, with Colton, Soyfer, Dodridge, and freshman Jesper Freimuth securing straight-set wins. O'Hoisin required three sets, ultimately prevailing 7-5, 4-6, 10-2.

The tone shifted on Saturday in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where Wisconsin faced Middle Tennessee State. The Blue Raiders, who stand at 10-2, had not lost at home this season and had previously shut out five opponents. Wisconsin started well, taking the doubles point. Dodridge and O'Hoisin beat Chris Edge and Tom Moonen 6-4. Senior Chema Carranza and Freimuth added a 6-2 win over Glan Issa and Jan Porteset. In singles, Soyfer posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory, improving his individual record to 10-0 for the season.

Middle Tennessee State rallied to take control, winning the next three singles matches to build a 3-2 lead. Dodridge then leveled the score at 3-3 with a 7-6, 6-1 win, forcing the deciding point to the final singles match. The contest came down to Carranza against Moonen at No. 2 singles. The match was back and forth, with Carranza losing the first set in a tiebreak before winning the second 6-1.

In the decisive third set, Carranza led 5-4 but could not close it out. Moonen fought back to win the set 7-5, securing the victory for the Blue Raiders. Head coach Danny Westerman acknowledged the frustration of the result but viewed it as a learning opportunity. He stated, "This one stings. We need to keep working. We put ourselves in these situations so we can eventually get over the hump."

The Badgers return to action next weekend at home. They will host a Sunday doubleheader at Nielsen Tennis Center against Cornell and UW-Green Bay, offering another chance to extend their winning streak at home.
