The NFL’s NFC East has become a peculiar place this year, but Monday night’s matchup will test just how resilient these teams really are.

Both the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles have dropped to 2-4, creating a rare opportunity for either side to reassert control over their division. The race remains tight because the New York Giants lead the pack at 3-2-1, leaving the bottom three teams within striking distance. In a historic twist, no team in the division has won a game in the last two weeks, a streak unmatched since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. This collective slump suggests that one victory could dramatically shift the power dynamics in the conference.

Philadelphia’s offensive woes have deepened significantly over the past month. The Eagles are currently on a four-game losing streak, their longest since 2020, during which they have managed only 58 total points. Quarterback Jalen Hurts is out for the season due to blood clots, forcing the team to rely on Tanner McKee. Although McKee has started twice before, last week’s loss to Carolina was his first true test under pressure. He now has a full week to work with first-year offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, a setup McKee says is helping him refine his preparation process and engage more with the coaching staff.

The running game presents another hurdle for the Birds. Saquon Barkley is sidelined with a hamstring injury, and his backups Will Shipley and Tank Bigsby are also dealing with injuries. Carson Steele, recently elevated from the practice squad, suffered a shoulder issue in the latest game. This left Dameon Pierce as the sole option, who rushed for 35 yards against a Dallas defense that allows 4.7 yards per carry. The Cowboys have their own defensive concerns, ranking 30th in the league under first-year coordinator Christian Parker, which could give McKee and the Eagles some breathing room on the ground.

Dallas is also facing scrutiny, particularly on the offensive front. The team scored just 29 points in their last two losses, including a recent 23-13 defeat to Green Bay. They have now scored fewer than 20 points in consecutive starts for Dak Prescott for the first time since 2019. Owner Jerry Jones addressed the situation at the NFL’s fall meeting, stating he does not anticipate further coaching changes this season. He defended the recent hiring of Mike Pettine as a strategic move, signaling that the front office is confident in the current leadership structure despite the poor results.

Several individual stats are poised to change history this week. Javonte Williams is chasing Emmitt Smith’s records, currently holding seven rushing touchdowns in six games. CeeDee Lamb sits third in the league with 48 receptions, a franchise record for this stretch of the season, and is nearing 8,000 career receiving yards. On the other side, Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert needs one more reception to move into third place on the team’s all-time list. These milestones add a layer of narrative to what is essentially a battle for survival.

The Cowboys enter the game as 4-point favorites, though their 3-3 record against the spread is less impressive than the Eagles’ 1-5 mark. Dallas leads the all-time series 72-58 and won the last meeting 24-21 last November. Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m. CST on ESPN. The outcome here will set the tone for the final stretch of the divisional schedule, with Philadelphia hosting the Giants in November to determine if their season is truly over or still salvageable.
