Miro Heiskanen recorded 29 minutes and 20 seconds of ice time Thursday night, a span that ended with the pass that won the game. The Dallas Stars defeated the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 in overtime at American Airlines Center. The decisive play came at 3:47 of the extra period. Jason Robertson blocked a Winnipeg scoring chance, and Heiskanen immediately sent Roope Hintz on a breakaway. Hintz finished the sequence to put away the puck.

The sequence relied on a shared defensive effort. Heika reported that a Robertson turnover created the initial Winnipeg opportunity before his block ended it. The recovery allowed Dallas to transition from defense to offense without a turnover. This quick change of possession prevented the Jets from maintaining pressure on the Dallas net.

The defensive load fell heavily on the top pairing. Esa Lindell was scratched from the lineup, forcing Heiskanen to carry a heavier burden. Thomas Harley played 28 minutes and 27 seconds, the second-most minutes on the blue line. Lian Bichsel recorded 17 minutes and 47 seconds, while Nils Lundkvist, Tyler Myers, and Kyle Capobianco filled out the remaining minutes. The distribution of time showed how much the Stars relied on their top two defensemen to stabilize the zone.

The game was not one-sided in terms of scoring flow. Winnipeg took an early lead in the second period. Gabriel Vilardi and Kyle Connor scored to put the Jets ahead. Dallas trailed until the final two minutes of regulation. Hintz scored a shorthanded equalizer with six on the ice for Dallas, forcing the game into overtime. The equalizer erased a two-goal deficit.

Statistical advantages did not translate into easy scoring. The Stars outshot the Jets 38 to 19. Connor Hellebuyck made 35 saves to keep Winnipeg in the game. The high shot count indicated control of possession, but the defensive effort from Winnipeg required Dallas to work for every goal. The game remained tight despite the disparity in attempts.

Heiskanen finished the night with five shots on goal, one block, and the winning assist. He did not score a goal. Harley also left the ice without a point. Their contributions were measured in minutes played and defensive positioning rather than offensive output. The Stars won the game with a single finish in overtime.
