Detroit-based singer KALYSTA will release her debut EP, titled Midnight Special, at the end of November 2026.
The artist described the sound of the new music as pop with underlying elements of soulful vocals, R&B, and jazz. She noted that these genres reflect the music she grew up listening to.
KALYSTA stated that the EP focuses on the theme of being a powerful and strong woman. She explained that many of the songs address life experiences as a woman and the process of finding confidence.
The project has been in development for approximately three or four years. KALYSTA said the music grew alongside her during that period.
She began singing in school choirs before her parents encouraged her to pursue opportunities outside of the classroom. She treated music as an extracurricular activity throughout high school and college before deciding to work in the industry full time.
The release party for Midnight Special is scheduled for November 20, 2026, at El Club in Detroit. Tickets and additional details are available for purchase.
