The Seattle Seahawks acquired offensive guard Quenton Nelson from the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday. Seattle sent a 2027 third-round draft pick and a 2028 fifth-round selection to Indianapolis in the exchange.
Nelson, 30, played his entire 11-year career with the Colts. He was selected sixth overall in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame. The guard earned eight Pro Bowl selections and six All-Pro honors during his tenure with Indianapolis.
The trade occurs as Nelson enters the final year of his contract. Indianapolis chose to trade him for future draft capital rather than risk losing him in free agency. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the deal, noting the Colts opted to secure assets now before the veteran became a free agent.
Seattle enters Week 8 with a 4-3 record following its Super Bowl LX victory. The team adds Nelson to its roster to bolster the running game and pass protection. Nelson has appeared in all seven of Indianapolis’ games this season.
The move marks a personnel shift for the struggling Colts, who hold a 2-5 record after three straight losses. Indianapolis fired general manager Chris Ballard on Oct. 19. Interim general manager Ed Dodds is currently making personnel decisions as the team evaluates its options before the trade deadline.
