K-State QB Johnson unlikely to play vs. Oklahoma State
Coach Collin Klein says the injury timeline is long, leaving the Wildcats to rely on backup quarterbacks for the rest of the season.

Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson is unlikely to play in Saturday's game against Oklahoma State, head coach Collin Klein said on Monday. This will be Johnson's third consecutive game missed due to injury.
Klein described the timeline for Johnson's return as "probably looking longer than not." He added that there is only an "outside chance" the Wichita native will rejoin the team before the season ends. The quarterback has started 32 games over his four years in Manhattan.
The absence of Johnson has forced the Wildcats to rotate two different backups. Jacob Knuth started the 28-17 loss to Arizona State on Oct. 24. Blake Barnett started the following weekend, when the team lost to Colorado in overtime.
Klein said he has faced difficult quarterback situations before but has not seen one quite like this. He credited the players in the room for battling through the last 10 weeks, noting that they have supported one another despite the challenges.
The Wildcats currently hold a 4-4 record. They face Oklahoma State at noon Saturday at home in Manhattan. Klein said his "heart breaks" for Johnson given the uncertainty surrounding his playing time for the remainder of the year.
