The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in 12 innings on Tuesday night at Tropicana Field. The victory snapped the Brewers' eight-game winning streak and forced a fifth game in the World Series.
Tampa Bay enters Game 5 trailing the series 3-1. The Rays lost the first two games at American Family Field in Milwaukee and dropped the third contest at home before securing the win on Tuesday. Milwaukee leads the best-of-seven series and holds a two-game cushion.
Jacob Misiorowski, the favorite for the National League Cy Young Award, is scheduled to start for the Brewers in the upcoming matchup. The fifth game is set for Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. ET at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.
The Rays became the fifth team in history to win a World Series game after falling behind 3-0. Four previous teams that achieved this milestone lost the subsequent fifth contest. In a broader post-season context, only the 2004 Boston Red Sox have ever recovered from a 3-0 deficit in a seven-game series to claim the championship against the New York Yankees.
Milwaukee sought to become the second team in history to sweep both the League Championship Series and the World Series. The Rays' rally prevented that historic achievement and kept the title race alive for one more evening.
