Arsenal and Manchester City now stand level at the summit of the Premier League with 21 points each. The tie resulted from two distinct results on Saturday, October 24, which erased a three-point gap that had favored City.
At the Emirates Stadium, heavy rain accompanied a 2-0 victory for Arsenal over Everton. The match began with a set-piece opportunity that broke a long drought for the home side. Martin Odegaard delivered a corner that Jordan Pickford initially saved, but the ball remained in the box. Ezri Konsa struck it from a yard out in the seventh minute to open the scoring. This marked Arsenal's first goal from a set piece in 13 games. Konsa noted the importance of consistency for a title challenge, stating, "We are champions and to be champions you've got to win games consistently."
The second goal arrived in the 68th minute through a combination of two players reaching career milestones. Ben White, appearing in his 200th match for the club, crossed to the far post. Gabriel, making his 200th Premier League appearance, headed the ball past Everton's defense. The result left Everton in ninth place.
Simultaneously, Manchester City fell to a 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa. The loss ended the visitors' unbeaten start to the season. Nicolas Jackson scored twice for the home side. His first goal came in the sixth minute after John McGinn intercepted a heavy touch from Marc Guehi. Erling Haaland briefly leveled the score just after halftime with a header from a free kick. However, Jackson restored the lead on the 60th minute, finishing under goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma after a cutback from Ibrahim Mbaye. The win moved Villa to sixth place with 11 points and marked their third consecutive league victory over City.
City now face uncertainty regarding their off-field financial situation. An independent commission found 114 breaches of Premier League financial rules, a claim the club has denied. Jackson told TNT Sports that the club is working game by game as they await the outcome of an appeal.
Other results on the day included a 2-0 win for Tottenham Hotspur at Chelsea. Cole Palmer was sent off in the 80th minute, and Mathys Tel scored the decisive goal in the 87th minute. Fulham defeated Coventry City 1-0, with Oscar Bobb scoring in the 80th minute to secure their second league win of the season.
