Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell is the first defensive player from the team to update on his condition since a concerning play against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. The 26-year-old is currently hospitalized and is providing his first public remarks on his physical status.
In a statement released by the club on Wednesday, Campbell confirmed that he has regained full movement in his lower body. He described his recovery as encouraging and noted that he is also making progress with movement in his upper body. The linebacker expressed gratitude to his family and the public for the support they have offered over the past few days.
The injury occurred early in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game. Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray completed a 10-yard pass to tight end T.J. Hockenson. Campbell and teammate Eric O'Neill attempted to bring Hockenson down. The tackle appeared routine, but Campbell fell face down on the field and remained motionless. Medical staff rushed to his side and secured him to a cart for transport to the hospital.
Campbell, who is from Cedar Falls, Iowa, stated that he is taking his recovery one day at a time. He credited his faith in God for providing a sense of peace during the process. "I know He has a plan for me, and I trust in that plan," he said. He added that he remains optimistic about the work ahead.
The linebacker thanked the medical staff at the Lions facility and the caregivers at Henry Ford Hospital for their efforts. He also addressed his teammates and coaches, saying their support means everything to him. Campbell stated that he is proud to be a Detroit Lion and felt fortunate to be surrounded by such a group of people.
Campbell said he intends to approach his rehabilitation with the same toughness and resilience he associates with Detroit. He described the city as being built on grit and said he will use that mindset as a guide. The team has not yet announced a specific timeline for his return to practice or games.
Medical staff at Henry Ford Hospital are continuing to monitor Campbell’s progress. The Lions will provide further updates on his condition as he continues to recover from the injury sustained during the matchup with the Vikings.
